The South shut down last week. Why? A few inches of snow, that's why. Oh yes. That's how rare it is down here. At the first sign of snow, schools were shut down...but then everything froze, so those who were on their way to pick up their kids, or on the road home from work (Like my older sister and I were...) either slid off the road or just sat in their cars for hours waiting for whatever we were waiting for...
Hannah and I were let out at 11:30 from the nursery we work at, which is about an hour away from our house. It took us 2 hours to drive a mile. Traffic was horrible. Cars were sliding off the road left and right and it was really cold. Hannah and I eventually pulled off into a parking lot to wait for Daddy to come rescue us. Another hour passed and traffic seemed to let up a little bit, so we ventured up the hill to find a restaurant to wait at. Everything was closed except for gas stations and...Cracker Barrel. We played checkers and looked around the shop for a little bit until Daddy and a friend showed up. We ate dinner there, because, hello. It was 5pm. Then we left to find our way home. We made it safely, passing many other vehicles that were not so lucky. The front roads in our neighborhood was covered with parked cars that didn't make it up the big hill.
6 hours later than we would have if the weather had been normal, we pulled into our driveway and hurried inside to warmth. Tired and thankful.
Always an adventure, right? Yes. Indeed.
Wednesday morning we woke up to everything still covered in white, (which never happens here.) so of course, we had to go outside and take advantage of our "snow day". I lasted about 30 minutes. The socks I was using for mittens (because...I don't have real mittens.) got wet real fast and my fingers turned to ice.
There was a stump and we were heading right for it. Hence the look of terror on my face.
Oh yes. Our road, when frozen, is perfect for those "old fashioned" wooden sleds that have been in our shed for the last 7 years, un-used till now. And yes, that's me. With 5 coats on, my awesome hat, and socks on my hands. It's how I roll when it's 20 degrees or less outside.
A few weeks ago we woke up to the most amazing double rainbow. It was so beautiful I actually got out of bed to photograph it. God is great. The wonderful Artist we praise deserves every bit, and more, of our awe and reverence. Praise Him with me this week!
